How does Hsp90 regulate genome integrity?
Candida albicans does not engage in canonical sexual reproduction to diversify its genome. Instead, C. albicans employs a number of alternative mechanisms, including Loss-of-Heterozygosity (LoH), which homogenizes parts of chromosomes or whole chromosomes. Stress significantly affects the rates at which this happens (Forche et al., 2011).
This project investigates the role of Hsp90 in LoH by measuring LoH rates in response to changing levels of Hsp90. To understand the biological consequences of Hsp90-driven LoH, phenotypic variation in virulence, stress response and development are assessed.
